Sims initiates its first international export of steel scrap metal to Japan – establishing a global footprint and demonstrating its commitment to connecting resources worldwide.

Sims strategically expands into the U.S. metals recycling market with the acquisition of LMC Corporation, located in California, solidifying its position as a global industry leader.

2005

Sims’ strategic acquisition of Hugo Neu Corporation establishes the company as the largest metal recycler, reinforcing its dominance in the industry at the time.

Sims forms a joint venture with Adams Steel and forms SA Recycling, strengthening its presence in the North American market.

Sims Group and Metal Management, one of the largest metal recyclers in the U.S., merges creating the world’s leading publicly traded metal recycling company – Sims Metal.
