OUR HISTORY

1917
Albert G. Sims starts a scrap metal collection business named Albert G. Sims Ltd. in Sydney, Australia laying the foundation of a century of sustainable resource management.
1948
After three decades of sustained and robust growth,
Albert G. Sims Ltd. goes public on the Australian Securities Exchange marking a significant milestone on its expansion
and financial stability.


1956
Albert G. Sims Ltd. initiates its first international export of steel scrap metal to Japan – establishing a global footprint and demonstrating its commitment to connecting resources worldwide.
1988
Albert G. Sims Ltd. strategically expands into the U.S. metals recycling market with the acquisition of LMC Corporation, located in California, solidifying its position as a global industry leader.


2005
Sims strategic acquisition of Hugo Neu Corporation, establishes the company as the largest metal recycler, reinforcing its dominance in the industry at the time.
2007
Sims forms a joint venture with Adams Steel and forms SA Recycling, strengthening its presence in the North American market.


2008
Sims Group and Metal Management, one of the largest metal recyclers in the U.S., merges creating the world’s leading publicly traded metal recycling company – Sims Metal.
2017
Sims Metal celebrates a century of resilience and innovation, marking 100 years of leadership in sustainable resource management.


2021
Sims Metal achieves substantial growth through the strategic acquisitions of Alumisource Corporation, Atlantic Recycling Group, and Recyclers Australia, expanding its market reach and operational capabilities.
2023
Sims Metal acquires Northeast Metal Traders and Baltimore Scrap Corporation.


2026
For the 12th consecutive year, Sims Limited is named as one of the Most Sustainable Corporations by Global100 – further validating its commitment to environmental leadership.
