Environment

Recycling benefits the environment and produces jobs. During Fiscal Year 2008, Sims Metal Management’s 7,000 employee team sold more than 11 million tonnes of recyclable material; the use of these materials instead of virgin raw materials avoiding the emission of 23.5 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent to avoiding the burning of 62 million barrels of oil. But not all recyclers are created equal. Sims Metal Management prides itself on recycling the right way - in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Sims Metal Management has a strong commitment to the environment, health of the communities in which we do business and overall sustainability. As recyclers, we’re constantly promoting environmental responsibility with our operations every day, yet we also go above and beyond, helping maintain a environmentally sound planet for generations to come.

Sims Metal Management will do even more to foster sustainability this coming year, including reviewing our lighting efficiency, reducing truck idling, planting trees, and addressing other areas where we can improve.

Sims Metal Management isn’t content with just being the world’s leading recycling company - we're also determined to become the cleanest and most energy efficient.
