In Fiscal Year 2008, Sims Metal Management handled a total of more than 11 million tones of ferrous material. The use of this secondary raw material by steel mills around the world avoided the emission of 23.5 million tones of CO2 to the atmosphere when compared with the use of virgin ore.

Sims Metal Management collects scrap from all corners of Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea through 43 sites servicing most major industrial and mining centres. This geographical presence is supported by a fleet of modern trucks, mobile compactors and on site processing equipment as well as a wide range of bins designed to suit most scrap collection needs.

Sims Metal Management has shredding plants located in all Australian States as well as Auckland and Christchurch enabling the efficient recycling of end of life cars, and white goods. These shredders also allow Sims Metal Management to provide secure destruction of your metal products. For larger items, such as heavy machinery, rolling stock or aircraft, Sims Metal Management has mobile and static shears as well as torch cutting equipment.
